Cricket Namibia’s vision is to be globally competitive, professional, values-based and inclusive Namibian sport of choice. The organization has worked tirelessly to grow the game of cricket in Namibia from grassroots level to support successful performance at an international stage.
Cricket Namibia’s Mini-Cricket program under Ashburton Investments has been one of the leading developmental cricket programs among the 92 Associate member countries. The cricket coaches served over 60 000 Namibian children in 12 regions and 22 towns which led to the program being nominated for development program of the year at the National Sports Awards last year (2021).
Cricket Namibia for the past years have been expanding women and girls cricket and we are proud to now have established girls only cricket in 2021, where we now have 11 teams playing for the U19s and 8 teams playing for the U13s. It is inspiring to see the growth of girls cricket in our country, and we are certain that we will soon have a large pool of girls cricket that would support the National Women’s team.
Child and youth welfare is extremely important in our daily lives and it is great that Cricket Namibia has created platforms for the youth. These platforms contribute to building sportsmanship and positive attitude towards the game. The National APS Sixes, Walvis Bay Salt Week, School Leagues, National Week, Junior Club League and U19 tournaments have grown in participation over the years, and these are the platforms that play a big role in supporting and strengthening cricket played at a much higher level.
Inclusivity and equality are important factors in sport and we are happy to see how the organization embraces this, through different programs and especially through the National Women’s team. The Capricorn Eagles have given the girl child inspiration and reason that cricket is accessible to everyone regardless of gender. Capricorn Eagles have shown competitiveness in their last tournaments, they won 9 out of 11 matches and played in the finals of two competitions.
The National Men’s team, the Eagles have won Namibian hearts and even those from all over the world. These professionals showcased world-class on field performance throughout the year. Maintaining a winning culture was invaluable for the team which led them to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup and progressed to the Super 12 phase. The Eagles have made the Land of the Brave proud at every game they played at the T20 World Cup. This is indeed historic and a milestone for the country. The team remains to be the only team in the country with the highest number of World Cup wins, there is so much to be proud of! Qualifying for the Super 12 phase has led the team to automatically compete in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be hosted in Australia. Keep flying the Namibia flag up high Eagles! We are wishing you the best for this year’s T20 World Cup!
The Cricket Namibia office administration staff passionately works to give the best service in their different programs. Cricket Namibia was recognized as Regional winners and a shortlisted candidate among 92 Associate countries for the ICC Fan Engagement of the Year Award in 2021. The entity further received recognition as winners in another category awards in 2021, the ICC Development Initiative of the Year. This award acknowledged the outstanding development initiatives by Cricket Namibia. The outstanding performances by management and board of directors led to Cricket Namibia being awarded the Federation of the Year at the Namibia Annual Sports Awards.
