NSW Breakers players Stella Campbell and Lauren Smith have been deemed close contacts of a club teammate who received a positive Covid-19 test earlier this week.

The pair played alongside a club teammate in a Women’s Premier Cricket fixture on Sunday and did not breach any biosecurity protocols. They isolated as soon as he became aware of the situation and have since had three PCR tests, which have all produced negative results.

NSW Health has confirmed that Campbell and Smith are close contacts and they are currently isolating. As a consequence, they are unavailable to play in the Breakers’ opening WNCL match, scheduled for Melbourne on Friday.

Uncapped Breakers leg-spinner Jade Allen played in the same match, on the opposing team, and has been deemed a casual contact. Allen has returned several negative PCR tests and is free to play.

Campbell and Smith are understandably very disappointed not to be able to travel with their teammates to Melbourne for the beginning of their WNCL season.

A decision on the availability of Campbell and Smith for the Breakers’ second match, set down for Sunday and also against Victoria, will be made in consultation with the relevant health, CA and CNSW authorities in due course.
