Cricket Scotland is pleased to confirm the appointment of Steve Snell as Head of Performance with the governing body.

An ECB Level Four qualified coach, Steve will join Cricket Scotland in December, following a successful career in English county cricket in a playing, coaching and administrative capacity, spent primarily with Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Steve served as Head of Talent Pathway and Academy Director with Somerset CCC for seven years from 2014-2021, before taking on the role of Performance Director with Gloucestershire CCC. At both counties, he was responsible for shaping and delivering the high-performance strategies across the talent pathway. Aside from county cricket, Steve has worked as Fielding Coach with England Young Lions, as well as with ICC Europe and Hong Kong Cricket.

Steve said:

“It is a huge honour to join Cricket Scotland as Head of Performance. I see a great opportunity to help shape the future of Cricket Scotland and continue to grow, evolve, and further connect the grassroots game with performance and International cricket.

“This is a hugely exciting time for Cricket Scotland on the field, with the Men’s U19’s World Cup, the Women’s World Cup qualifiers and the Men’s T20 World Cup all just around the corner. There have been some outstanding performances and lots of hard work put in by all the teams and support staff in recent times, and a high degree of skill, resilience and character has been shown to reach the ICC flagship events.

“I’m positive that all our playing squads will continue to build on the work they have undertaken and enjoy the challenges, excitement, and opportunities that 2024 and beyond will bring. I’m looking forward to meeting up, working with and collaborating with the staff and players at Cricket Scotland and interacting with supporters, stakeholders, communities, players and coaches at all stages in the pathway across the country.”

Pete Fitzboydon, Cricket Scotland Interim Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted to confirm Steve’s appointment. He has an excellent track record working at a high level in county cricket, and we look forward to him bringing his expertise, enthusiasm and fresh thinking into Scottish cricket.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Toby Bailey for the immense job he has done as Interim Head of Performance, under the most challenging of circumstances. The results of the Men’s and Women’s international squads in his time in the role have been fantastic, during an extremely difficult period for the governing body, and he should be hugely proud of these achievements and his work in improving the Performance department.

“Toby will return to his previous role within Cricket Scotland, once a handover with Steve has been completed.”
