The Scotland Men’s coaching team for the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been confirmed.

Doug Watson’s staff heading to the Caribbean is completed by Glenn Pocknall, who joins in a fixed term role as Fielding Skills Consultant. Glenn is currently Head Coach of the Central Stags, at Central Districts Cricket Association in New Zealand, and spent time on the Scotland coaching staff last summer, during the ICC Men’s World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

Glenn joins up with the squad ahead of Scotland’s final warmup fixtures at the NORDEK T20 TriSeries with Netherlands and Ireland. His appointment completes the wider backroom group working with the squad for the period up to and including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which includes Stevie Gilmour and Moneeb Iqbal (Assistant Coaches), Dan Sutton (Strength & Conditioning), Dave Kershaw (Physio), Dr Rajeev McCrea-Routray and Kenny Crichton (Team Manager).

Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland Head of Performance, said:

“The experience of our wider coaching and medical staff will be hugely valuable to us in the coming weeks, during what is an extremely exciting period for us. The conditions in the Caribbean are likely to be particularly challenging, but we feel this group of players and staff are ready to step up and do themselves proud on the world stage.

“I’m extremely pleased to have secured someone of Glenn’s experience to work with us on a short-term basis. He has recent knowledge of many of the squad and brings a huge amount of quality and expertise to the group during the next few weeks. We also greatly appreciate the collaboration with Central Districts in allowing Glenn to join us for this short period.”

Stevie Gilmour will lead the coaching staff on the ground during the four fixtures in the Netherlands, with Doug Watson remaining in Scotland due to unforeseen visa delays. Following the TriSeries, the squad flies to Trinidad to begin their Caribbean preparation on Sunday 26 May.

Scotland’s official warmup games in Trinidad ahead of their Group B opener against England on 4 June have now been confirmed by the ICC. The Scots will take on Uganda on Thursday 30 May at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Port of Spain, before facing Afghanistan at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain the following day. Both fixtures will be 20 overs a side but will not have official international T20 status, allowing teams to field all members of the 15-player squad.
