Head Coach Mark Coles has named his squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier which takes place at La Manga, Spain later this month.

The Scots will take on Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Turkey with the top side progressing to the ICC Women’s World T20 qualifying tournament.

Captain Kathryn Bryce, Sarah Bryce and Abtaha Maqsood join up with the team fresh from their appearances in The Hundred. Hannah Rainey is also back in the squad after being unavailable for the series against Ireland in May, while Charis Scott is also included after missing out on the series against Ireland.

Scotland are currently ranked 13th in the ICC T20 World Rankings, three places below Ireland, but nine places above the Netherlands.

Scotland have not played internatonal cricket since their series against Ireland in Belfast in May, but Coles is confident in their preparations.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our team to go out and show the rest of the world what we’re all about. The lack of international cricket due to COVID-19 has been tough on everyone so it’s great to have this chance to just go out and play against these teams and express our skill sets.

“We’ve had some great preparations going into the tournament with a successful Cricket Scotland Women’s Super Series which gave everyone in the squad the chance to play quality T20 cricket over the summer and I know that everyone is ready and looking forward to getting out there and showcasing their skills.”

Coles will be joined by assistant coach Gemaal Hussein, the former county cricketer and bowling coach worked with Coles in the the Pakistan Women’s set up.

“It will be excellent to have Gemaal as part of the team for this tournament. He brings a wealth of experience with him and I know the team will benefit from his coaching in the run up to and during the tournament.”
