Cricket Scotland, alongside charity partner Beyond Boundaries, are delighted to announce they have been named Global Winners of the ICC Cricket 4 Good Social Impact Initiative of the Year 2023.

The award, one of six ICC Development Awards that will be presented at this month’s ICC AGM in Sri Lanka, recognises the cricket programmes being funded by Beyond Boundaries and delivered by Cricket Scotland that help to transform the lives of young disadvantaged and underrepresented people in Scotland.

Nic Wilson, Cricket Scotland Head of Development, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to accept this award in partnership with Beyond Boundaries.

“The key to transforming lives is partnership working, and while Cricket Scotland works with many charities, Beyond Boundaries focuses on funding a wide range of cricket programmes for underrepresented groups solely within Scotland.

“Our partnership covers so many aspects of the work we do; this includes our Disability Champion Clubs, the growth of women’s and girls’ cricket through the Wee Bash, the Female Coach Development Programme and the Women’s Beyond Boundaries T20 Scottish Cup, and the HOWZAT programme for 5–11-year-olds.

“It is fantastic to see the success of these programmes, which have positively impacted so many people across Scotland, being given global recognition.”

Keith Wilson, Chair of Beyond Boundaries, said:

“It is a great honour to have received global recognition from the ICC for our work in partnership with Cricket Scotland.

“Beyond Boundaries is a young Scottish charity and I’m proud of the work we support to help transform the lives of young, disadvantaged, and underrepresented people across the country through the sport of cricket.

“We’re hugely passionate about growing the sport here in Scotland. We believe our work encourages an active lifestyle, improves social inclusion and the self-confidence of participants and we want to continue to build on our award success in the months and years ahead.

“We believe that if we can help more people regardless of their background, race, gender, ability or age to push beyond their boundaries, then we will all be winners.”

Andy Wright, ICC Europe Development Manager, said:

“The ICC Development Awards are all about recognising and celebrating the success of the programmes that our members work so hard to deliver each year. We’re thrilled to be able to award Cricket Scotland the Cricket 4 Good Social Impact Initiative of the Year Award for 2023.

“Their partnership with Beyond Boundaries has been a huge success and has demonstrably removed barriers to disadvantaged communities and those with physical and mental disabilities to ensure they have access to the sport.

“We also applaud the partnership’s strong focus on Women & Girls Cricket. As title partner of the Women’s T20 Scottish Cup and providing ring-fenced funds to women’s coaching programmes, this really is leading by example. Growing the women’s game and female participation are key aspects of the ICC’s Global Growth Strategy, as they are for Cricket Scotland, and we’re delighted that this innovative partnership is already making an impact on domestic cricket in Scotland and that it continues to go from strength to strength.”
