Scotland’s men will play their first international cricket since May when they take on Zimbabwe in the opening match of the Wolf777 T20 Series at The Grange in Edinburgh tomorrow (Wednesday).

The three-match series represents a valuable chance for Shane Burger’s men to test themselves against quality opposition as they continue preparations for their Cricket World Cup League 2 matches against Oman and Papua New Guinea and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October.

“We see it as an opportunity to win three games of cricket against a full member,” said Burger. “But to do that we know we need to be at our best. It’s also a chance for us to rotate the squad around and identify our best line-ups moving into the World Cup. The conditions will be very different from those we will face in Oman, but we will still need to make sure that we can adapt  and play our best cricket in the conditions that are presented.”

Captain Kyle Coetzer is excited to see his team facing international opposition at home for the first time since 2019.  “It’ll be great to see the guys in action. There’s a lot coming up and these games will be valuable preparation for that. Obviously the the CWCL2 games are really important, so these provide us with a good warm-up for those, as well as the T20 World Cup.”

Zimbabwe arrive in Scotland from Ireland where they were beaten 3-2 by the hosts in a hard-fought T20I series, before drawing the ODI series 1-1.

Scotland will play four Cricket World Cup League 2 matches against Oman and Papua New Guinea in Oman at the end of September before starting their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign will begin in Oman on October 17 against Bangladesh, before taking on Papua New Guinea two days later and hosts Oman on October 21. The top two teams from the group will progress to the Super 12s stage of the competition.

The matches, which start at 2pm UK time on the 15th, 17th and 19th September, will be live streamed through the Cricket Scotland Live YouTube Channel.
