Cricket South Africa (CSA) in partnership with KFC, are set to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mini-Cricket programme.

On Saturday, 20 August 2022, sixteen Cricket South Africa affiliates will host the KFC Mini-Cricket festival. Dubbed the “KFC Mini-Cricket Mega-Festival”, this marks the first year ever in the programmes’ history, where the Provincial Festivals are held on the same day.

Over ten thousand kids are expected to participate in the mega-festival, with live cross overs between the 16 venues, and Cricket Services Managers and stalwarts being part of the proceedings.

The record-breaking campaign and festivities aim to celebrate the impact 40 years of Mini Cricket has had on the lives of children and communities throughout South Africa, and its contribution to the nation’s cricketing talent.

All the matches or festivals will play simultaneously in 16 different cricket stadiums across the country:

  • DP World Wanderers stadium, Johannesburg
  • Six Gun Grill Newlands stadium, Cape Town
  • SuperSport Park, Tshwane
  • Hollywoodbets Kingsmead stadium, Durban
  • Willowmoore Park, Benoni
  • Boland Park, Paarl
  • Khaya Majola Oval, Mthatha
  • St Georges Park, Gqeberha
  • Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein

  • Buffalo Park, East London
  • Sasol Cricket Club, Secunda

The #MiniCricket40 festivities officially began at this year’s KFC Mini-Cricket National Seminar in July, where the KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches and coordinators heed the call to call to make volunteerism a way of life.
Commenting on the significance of Mini-Cricket’s 40th Anniversary, CSA Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki said:

“The 40-year milestone of mini-cricket is one that CSA does not take lightly. This programme has unearthed some of the best cricketing talent in the country.

“Over the years, the Mini-Cricket programme has inspired the love for the game for nearly all our current Proteas men and women players. This CSA initiative has shown how powerful our country can grow when big brands invest in our future stars.”

“Our gratitude goes out to our partner, KFC, who has been part of this programme for the past 14 years. With their commitment to provide opportunities and create experiences that enrich the stars of tomorrow, one can rest assured that the future of the game in the country is in great hands.

“CSA recently celebrated 30-Years of Playing it Forward. These milestones demonstrate how far we have come as an organisation and how together, we can ensure the future of the game for our children, boys, and girls, from all walks of life.

“We are proud and grateful of the volunteers that so selflessly gave of their time to make the forty years of Mini-Cricket possible,” Moseki concluded.

KFC Brand Purpose and Reputation Manager, Andra Ferreira Nel said; “The KFC Mini-Cricket Mega festivals will be a great showcase of the impact that the programme makes in the lives of our children. These festivals do not only bring joy and unity to the kids and coaches onto the field, but they also create positive change in communities.

“We are proud to be part of one of the largest grassroot development programme that provides our youth with an opportunity to learn, play and thrive – this speaks to our ethos of levelling the playing field for the stars of tomorrow.”
