About the role

We are currently seeking to appoint a Psychologist to lead the mental health, wellbeing, and performance psychology services to Cricket Tasmania’s Male and Female State Teams, Hobart Hurricanes WBBL and BBL Teams, and Pathway Teams.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide and lead the mental health, wellbeing, and performance psychology services to ensure best practice service provision and direction in alignment with Cricket Australia objectives.
  • Support mental health and performance related delivery or guidance for players and staff in various performance settings.
  • Contribute and collaborate with the High Performance Team to ensure a robust performance and wellbeing strategy is delivered.
  • Monitor and act on mental health and performance screens (e.g. APSQ, EPQ) via the Athlete Management System (AMS).
  • Co-manage or lead the management of players unable to train or play due to mental ill-health and/or long-term injuries.
  • Develop and present content for group education that increases the mental health and performance psychology literacy of players and staff.
  • Develop an external referral network in the management of complex cases.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Player Development Managers to enable the effective treatment of mental health and wellbeing of players.
  • Assist the SSSM and coaching teams to prepare players for competition through the provision of information from a mental health perspective.

About you:

  • Current full practicing Psychology registration with AHPRA.
  • Master’s degree in Sport Psychology from an accredited program or Dpsych/PhD in Psychology would be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years sport psychology experience with elite athletes or teams.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as working autonomously with a high level of independence and initiative.
  • Knowledgeable about cricket and/or elite sport.
  • Ability to tailor strategies that assist athletes in managing difficulties, improving performance, and preparing for competition.
  • Innovative thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about enhancing the self-efficacy of athletes.
  • Resilience and energy to operate in a challenging working environment.
  • Well-developed management and leadership skills.
  • High-level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to operate with professionalism and integrity in challenging situations.
