Cricket Tasmania, as the owner and operator of Blundstone Arena, welcomes the Liberal Party election commitment to develop a Stadiums Tasmania Trust that will oversee the development and management of major stadia across the state.

Cricket Tasmania – the state’s largest not-for-profit sporting association – has held the mantle of delivering major sporting entertainment events in southern Tasmania since the development of Bellerive Oval began in 1999.

Cricket Tasmania General Manager Communications and Government Relations, Tim Lovibond, commended the long-term vision in the policy.

“The prospect of a trust ownership model for Blundstone Arena, University of Tasmania Stadium and other significant sporting infrastructure is an exciting one. It would be the biggest step-change that sports entertainment has seen in Tasmania for a long time, and sets the industry up for generations to come.”

“For us, the commitment to immediately invest into capital works at Blundstone Arena will see a number of projects delivered to improve the visitor experience for our patrons and ensure that we continue to be a good neighbour to our fellow Bellerive residents.”

“Cricket Tasmania has a long history of working closely with all levels of government regardless of their political persuasion, and during this state election campaign we have seen a number of great sporting commitments from all parties. With one week to go, we look forward to many more.”
