Following the sudden resignation of Grant Morgan recently, former Dolphins star Ahmed Amla will take over the mantle of head coach of the AET Tuskers for the remainder of the current season.

Amla has been involved in coaching since he retired from the professional game in 2013 and has been heading up the Tuskers Academy in Pietermaritzburg before taking on this role.

The 44-year-old finished his playing career with over 300 professional matches and takes the reins at the Tuskers with a wealth of experience.

“Ahmed has been with KZN Inland Cricket for the last five years so he understands the culture and the ethos around the union,” CEO of KZN Inland Cricket Jason Sathiaseelan said.

“With his playing experience as well as his coaching know-how we are confident that he will make an impact with the side during the remainder of the current season.

“We look forward to seeing how he guides the team as they begin their 4-Day campaign next week.”

Stepping into the shoes of a Division 1 head coach is an exciting prospect for Amla who is eager to work with players that he is familiar with.

“Having been here for five years and working with some of the players before I am excited by what I see,” Amla said.

“I’ve also got a good idea of what the pipeline here looks like and it’s exciting times here at the AET Pietermaritzburg Oval.

“Don’t get me wrong we have a lot of work to do and it’s going to be an incredibly tough 4-Day campaign, but I am hoping that my playing experience will be able to help the players during the rest of the season.

“I love the community here in Pietermaritzburg and I hope that we can make them proud,” Amla added.

Amla’s first task as head coach of the AET Tuskers is an away CSA 4-Day Domestic Series match with the defending champions the Hollywoodbets Dolphins from 4-7 November.
