Cricket South Africa (CSA) has today announced the SA U19 Women’s side to take on their Namibian counterparts from Wednesday, 13 July 2022.

The four-match T20 series will feature two double-header encounters to be held at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, on the 13th and 14th of July 2022.

This is in preparation for the SA U19 Women’s team’s journey towards the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup that will be hosted in South Africa in January 2023.

The young ladies have recently concluded a five-day extensive national training camp focusing on fitness and skills-based training at Steyn City.

SA U19 Women’s Convenor of Selectors, Clinton du Preez, commented on the journey leading to this moment. He shared the sentiments of the selection panel in identifying the group of young cricketers for the CSA High-Performance programme.

“The journey commenced last year, where we focused on the respective Girls National Weeks which took place in 2021.

“Our sights were set on a balanced group of players with the necessary skill set to address the T20 format. The aim was to provide coach, Dinesha Devnarain, with a group of players we believe will prepare well over the next few months to successfully compete in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

“Building on the current group of players will be key for the future. We have a crop of young players on which we will base our future and ensure that support and interventions are put in place to allow them to build to the next World Cup,” Du Preez concluded.

Head coach, Dinesha Devnarain commented on the future of the women’s game, noting that the group of players selected will prepare well and eventually play to the best of their ability and play a competitive game in the tournament.

“The team that we have selected is a versatile group of girls and I am excited to put them through the paces and refine certain skills.

“We will focus on our growth, the learnings that will take place and of course, meeting international cricket demands.

“This is a fantastic group, with lots of energy, eager to learn, and that creates a healthy working environment, making the job easier as a coach.

“I have no doubt that they will be good custodians of SA women’s cricket and we look forward to put the plans in place, grow young minds, and change mindsets,” said Devnarain.
