Cricket remains one of the strongholds of South African sport, bringing people together to celebrate a six! and putting the country on the global sporting map for decades. But the sport has also come to be known for so much more than putting bat to ball.

“Sport has a positive ripple effect on communities, particularly in South Africa,” says Dietlof Mare, cricket fan and CEO at Vuma. The leading fibre infrastructure provider is now the official sponsor of the national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. In accordance with the sponsorship, the team will now be referred to as the Vuma Proteas.

“It gives us immense pride to put our support behind the Vuma Proteas and play a role in helping to advance one of South Africa’s most loved sports. Cricket brings people together and allows them to connect based on a shared love for the game. This impacted our decision to come on board as a sponsor, as this aligns well with our values of making connections that live beyond fibre,” he adds.

Cricket South Africa’s Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith, adds, “This sponsorship ensures South Africa maintains its position as world-renowned cricketing giant, not to mention keeping the cricket alive here in South Africa too.”

“We’re up against some heavy-hitters, West Indies and Australia, but I believe we stand a good chance at success. I stand behind my team, and I thank the rest of South Africa for standing behind us too. With your support I am confident we can bring this one home,” says Temba Bavuma, captain of the Vuma Proteas.

“We are delighted that our team is in a good space and ready to take on the best in the world. This sponsorship will add the necessary confidence in them, knowing that they are supported by a brand of such prestige. I would like to thank Vuma for getting behind CSA and the team, at a crucial moment before the official kick-off of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

“This partnership adds to the throngs of South Africans rallying behind the Vuma Proteas and vying for the T20 World Cup to be brought back to South Africa,” concluded Pholetsi Moseki, CSA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer.
