Nelson Mandela Bay: Dafabet Warriors stars Matthew Breetzke and Beyers Swanepoel swept the boards at the annual Cricket Eastern Cape awards for the 2022/23 season hosted at the Boardwalk Hotel on August 30.
Batter Breetzke received the Cricketer of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Batting Award for the 4 Day Cup.
He shared the 4 Day Cup Player of the Series award with Swanepoel.
Fast bowler Swanepoel also received the Bowling Award for the 4 Day Cup, 1 Day Cup and T20 Challenge.
Batter and wicket keeper Tristan Stubbs, who received the Batting Award for the 1 Day Cup, was also judged Player of the Series.
For the T20 Challenge, both the Batting and Player of the Series Awards went to batter Jordan Hermann.
He is also Newcomer of the Season.
As part of his Cricketer of the Year prize Breetzke will have the use of the South African Car of the Year, a Ford Ranger, provided by Eastern Cape Motors.
“Matthew’s maiden selection for the Protea T20 squad underscores the calibre and talent of the Dafabet Warriors Squad,” says coach Robin Peterson.
The 2023/24 squad includes four Protea caps.
