Cricket South Africa (CSA) governs cricket in South Africa. Formed in 2002, it succeeded the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) and became the sole governing body in 2008. CSA oversees all levels of cricket, including national teams for men and women, and is a full ICC member and SASCOC affiliate.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday concluded the 2022 Coaches’ Conference that was held in Magaliesburg.

This was the first in-person coaches’ conference that CSA conducted with the professional coaches after the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions.

Themed “Lead the Change”, the conference saw coaches from across Division 1 and Division 2 teams descend into Johannesburg West to collectively chart a new direction for South African cricket.

“The role of our first-class coaches is critical for sustaining SA Cricket Proteas as world class teams,” said CSA Coaching Education Manager, Gift Mathe.

“Our vision for the conference was to reset the mindset of our coaches and motivate them to “Lead the Change” that we would like to see in SA Cricket.”

CSA Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, shared at the conference, the system philosophy which will underpin the direction and complexion of coaching throughout the cricket ecosystem.

“The conference sought to reflect and improve on gains made since it was last held in 2019,” said Nkwe.

“It also came at the time when CSA is rebuilding from the ground up. This will help us to align with the organization’s access, inclusiveness, and excellence ethos, which are critical in supporting the growth and sustainability of cricket in South Africa,” concluded Nkwe.

The 2021/22 Division One Coach of the Year, Mandla Mashimbyi, shared his experience from this year’s conference. He highlighted the in-depth conversations that were held about the entire CSA pipeline, from age group teams to Proteas and to create a unique South African blend of play.

“The CSA Coaching Conference 2022 has been a fantastic and refreshing engagement. This is the first time that the elite coaches in the country have been asked to contribute towards the alignment of the CSA playing philosophy.

“The character of the players, staff, and consultants has been at the forefront in a collective bid to creating a people-first culture and prioritizing safe playing environments. creating good people first who are prioritised in a safe environment.

“I feel that this conference could become a catalyst to create an enhanced South African cricket product and sustain the reputation of South African cricket as a force to be reckoned with,” Mashimbyi concluded.
