Cricket South Africa (CSA) is delighted and proud to congratulate its Social Justice and Nation Building (SJN) ombudsman, Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza SC, on the award by Rhodes University of the LL D degree (Honoris Causa) at its virtual awards ceremony in Makhanda today.
A traditional celebratory experience will take place once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted sufficiently for it to happen.
“This is an honour that is very richly deserved by a man who has done so much for the legal profession, our country and continent and continues to do so,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Pholetsi Moseki.
“The SJN project is one of the most important programmes CSA has ever launched and we are indeed fortunate to have a man of Advocate Ntsebeza’s calibre and experience to lead this initiative.
“We congratulate you and wish you well as you continue to live a life of public service,” concluded Mr Moseki.
“Well done, Dumisa. We are proud to have you as a member of our CSA family,” commented CSA Interim Board chair Dr Stavros Nicolaou. “We know you will bring your inspiration to our SJN project as well.
“As today’s citation says, you have been a champion of political and human rights, human dignity and social justice in South Africa and beyond.”
In a congratulatory letter to the six honorary graduands vice-chancellor Sizwe Mabizela wrote:
“Our Chancellor will confer six honorary degrees on highly eminent persons in recognition and celebration of their extraordinary lifetime achievements and contributions in a field of knowledge or scholarship, in public service or in artistic creation. Their personal journeys and selfless service and sacrifices serve as an inspiration and an example worthy of emulation by us all.
“These are women and men whose distinction in some field or selfless leadership set them apart, and are consonant with our own institutional mission, purposes and values. We are deeply grateful that they have honoured us with their acceptance of our offer of recognition. The recipients of the honorary degrees are: Adv Dumisa Buhle Ntsebeza SC, Dr Marguerite Poland, Mama Ntsiki Biko, Mr William Smith, Ms Mary de Haas and Prof Berhau Abegaz.
