CSA: Free State Cricket Union (FCSU) saddened by the passing of Mr. Abubacher “Baby” Richards

Cricket South Africa (CSA) governs cricket in South Africa. Formed in 2002, it succeeded the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) and became the sole governing body in 2008. CSA oversees all levels of cricket, including national teams for men and women, and is a full ICC member and SASCOC affiliate.

The Free State Cricket family is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. “Baby” Richards. He will be remembered for his remarkable all-round sportsmanship and anti-racialism support during the late 90’s.

The President of FSCU Xander Snyders commented: “It is a real sad day for Central Cricket Region. Oom Baby Richards was and will always be a legend and a great ambassador for cricket in the Central Region. His legacy will stay with us and will be dearly missed. Condolences to his family, friends and cricket family.”

The Vice-President of FSCU Zola Thamae added: “As Free State Cricket we mourn the passing of one of a rare cricket spies if I can use the term. Losing a Legend which had such an impact to the community at large leaves a void. We will surely miss his humbleness and immerse contribution into the game. Rest easy uncle “Baby”.

“Oom Baby Richards played such a big role in the lives of all Sporting fans in the Central Region. He enjoyed sport and believed in the principle of playing the game hard, but always be humble and to stay in the spirit of the game. I will sincerely miss his calmness in which he managed crisis’s and he will leave a big hole in the sporting fraternity” FSCU CEO Johan van Heerden concluded.
