CSA: NWC pays tribute to coach William Molewa

Cricket South Africa (CSA) governs cricket in South Africa. Formed in 2002, it succeeded the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) and became the sole governing body in 2008. CSA oversees all levels of cricket, including national teams for men and women, and is a full ICC member and SASCOC affiliate.

NWC mourns the untimely passing of former Ikageng Hub head coach and under 16 framework coach William Molewa.  William represented the NWC Dragons seniors, U17 CSA Week, and represented NWC at the Khaya Majola Cricket Week in Grahamstown in 1997 and in Potchefstroom in 1999 as a left-arm opening seam bowler. Molewa played for Ikageng Cricket Club at Premier league level. 

In 2014 he was appointed as Ikageng Hub head coach and was instrumental in the success of hub program in Ikageng, where he produced a number players for our youth teams. He also coached the NW Under 13 boys, Under 16 boys and NWC rural team were he won a few accolades during his tenure. 

He started to coach the North West Rural Dragons team in the 2016/2017 season to date. During his time as coach of the NW Rural Dragons team he was very successful in implementing a winning culture. He won the Inland Rural Competition on four (4) occasions consecutively until last season. he also won the National Rural Week on 3 occasions, and he was always very proud of this achievement. Both these achievements have not been met by any coach in RSA. In total he won 28 games in a row as the coach of the NW Rural Dragons, a remarkable achievement for a provincial side. 

“He had a very good understanding of developing cricketers in the Pipeline. He was always cool, calm and collected. Under his leadership and mentoring a lot of young men become more accomplished cricketers and they all looked up to him as a coach, brother, and father. We as the NW Rural Family will miss our coach, brother, and friend.  William, rest in peace Brother” said Christo Gous (Chairperson of NWC – Cricket Committee).  

“We as North West Cricket Family would like to send our deepest condolences to the Molewa family, at this sad moment. We want to thank them for sharing with us their beloved son, brother, uncle, and father to Shaun Molewa. William’s contribution to NWC will forever be edged in the cricket history books of our province. “Said Solomon Meki (Acting – Cricket Services Manager).

Place: International Assemblies of God (IAG), Carltonville.
