Cricket South Africa (CSA) governs cricket in South Africa. Formed in 2002, it succeeded the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCB) and became the sole governing body in 2008. CSA oversees all levels of cricket, including national teams for men and women, and is a full ICC member and SASCOC affiliate.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has paid tribute to former Eastern Province Board all-rounder Rani Hendricks and former NCA all-rounder Anton Procter who both passed away last Saturday evening.

Hendricks, who was 67 and had been in poor health for some time, was one of the top bowling all-rounders in the SACB provincial competitions through the late 1970s and early 1980s. He represented EP on 28 occasions, making 668 runs and taking 63 wickets.

He was a multi-talented sporting all-rounder who also excelled at soccer and squash.

“From a young age, he played the game alongside many of our greats including Maurice Wilson, Armpie Francis, Rubin Kisten, Alec Douglas, who rated him very highly,” recalled Graeme Sauls, former EP president and former CSA Board member.

“We had the privilege of honouring him in 2017 at our PE Sports Legends Trust gala dinner and despite his brilliant career, he felt almost embarrassed to receive the award.

“That was typical of the humble person he was and we are deeply saddened by his passing.”

Procter, who represented the Natal A and B sides in four matches in the 1966/67 season, came from a notable cricketing family. His younger brother, Mike, is one of the all-time legends of the game while his father, Woodrow, represented Natal in 1939 before having his career halted by the outbreak of World War II.

“We are saddened to hear of the loss of these two fine cricketers and on behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends and cricketing colleagues,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Dr. Jacques Faul.
