Cricket South Africa’s Members’ Council and the Interim Board have today learnt with sadness of the passing of Mohamed Ebrahim, the former President of the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA).

Ebrahim had served as President of the union from 2007 to 2011. During the same period he was a Member of the Board at CSA.

“Cricket South Africa is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Ebrahim,” Acting President of the Cricket South Africa Members’ Council, Mr Rihan Richards, commented. “He was a senior figure at Western Province cricket for a number of years and also served CSA with distinction.

“On behalf of the CSA Family, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and associates.”

Prior to his presidency, Ebrahim occupied several other key portfolios within WPCA, helping them to become one of the most reputable sporting federations in the country.

He was also the brother-in-law of long-time administrator and current CSA Interim Board Member, Andre Odendaal.

Chair of the Interim Board, Dr Stavros Nicolaou, added: “Our thoughts are with Andre and his family during these difficult times. Mohamed was part of a generation of excellent administrators and worked tirelessly towards ensuring that the game was run professionally and with the highest standards. He was a loyal servant of the WPCA and will be sorely missed.”
