Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

Former West Indies fast bowler Deighton Butler will mark a special milestone when he stands in the second semi-final of the CG United Super50 Cup on Thursday. Butler, who was a left-arm new ball bowler in his playing days, will stand in his 50th List A match when Barbados Pride face Leeward Islands Hurricanes on Thursday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. First ball is 1pm (12 noon Jamaica Time).

Butler will be joined by Nigel Duguid as the other umpire in the middle, while Zahid Bassarth will be the television umpire with Gustard as the fourth official. The match referee is Reon King, another former West Indies fast bowler.

The first semi was between home team Trinidad & Tobago Red Force and arch-rivals Guyana Harpy Eagles on Wednesday. The match referee was Michael Ragoonath, with the standing umpires Leslie Reifer jr and Patrick Gustard. The television umpire was Butler, with Duguid as the fourth official.

He spoke to CWI Media ahead of Thursday’s content.

“This will be the 50th match standing in the middle, and I am really looking forward to the opportunity. From my playing days to now as an umpire I look forward to everything I do in cricket. It is an honor to be chosen for the semis and, as always I will do my best.”

Fans can catch the action from the semi-finals and final on ESPN Caribbean.
