Evin Lewis is undoubtably one of the most destructive opening batsmen in white-ball cricket today. He enters his second T20 world tournament, having been a part of the victorious 2016 outfit . He played one game then but is expected to be a leader in the #MissionMaroon setup this time around.
Coming off the back of a very successful Caribbean Premier League (CPL), where he broke the record for sixes hit in a season with 38 (previously held by Chris Gayle) and winning his first CPL title, Evin will be eager to replicate such form in the UAE.
He will have a slight advantage in adapting to the conditions, as he is currently involved in the IPL at the same venues. Rajasthan Royals snapped him up as a replacement player for the second half of the competition, which was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, dashing out some decent performances for that outfit.
In West Indies T20 colours, the left-handed opener has a blistering strike rate of 158 and averages over 30. With 4 hundreds and 10 fifty’s to his name, Evin will be anxious to add to those tallies during this year’s tournament.
Playing such a crucial role at the top of the order, a successful campaign for Evin Lewis could mean a successful campaign for the men from the Caribbean. The region is ready to rally behind Evin and the rest of #MissionMaroon
