Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

Cricket West Indies and the West Indies Senior Men’s team extend deepest condolences to fast bowler, Kemar Roach, and his family on the passing of his father, Andrew Smith.

Roach, who is currently in New Zealand, proceeded with the first Test match against the hosts at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Thursday morning (Wednesday night Caribbean Time). Both teams wore black armbands on the opening day in honour of Mr. Smith.

Team Manager Rawl Lewis spoke on behalf of CWI and the team:

“On behalf of CWI and the West Indies cricket team, I offer condolences to Kemar and his family back home. Losing a loved one is never easy and we want to offer our full support to Kemar during this very difficult time. We got the news as we prepared for the Test match here and the players and team support staff all got together and offered tremendous support,” Lewis said.
