Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

After a long journey across the Atlantic from Antigua to Karachi and three days quarantine, all-rounder Chinelle Henry and the West Indies Women had their first net training session on Friday and from all indications they are pumped and ready to go.

Henry, a tall right-arm seam bowler and powerful batter, says she is looking to carry across the form she had in the Maroon Warriors home series against Pakistan Women, where she was outstanding with the ball. In that series she finished with six wickets and economy rate of 4.45 runs per over.

“Last time Pakistan were in the Caribbean I did pretty well especially with the ball, so for me personally it’s about picking up where I left off.”

Henry said the team is in good spirits and are ready to crack on with the series, seeking another series win against Pakistan women.

“It’s good to be back doing what we do. I think the net session went well. I see the girls putting in the work, we looked like we never paused for the journey across here, so that’s a good sign for us.”

Performing well and seeking a series win will give the Maroon Warriors a mountain of confidence heading into the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2021 in Zimbabwe. This is the second tour in two years to Pakistan for most of these players.

Henry said:

“Last time in Pakistan we did really well as a team, even though we won the T20 series and not the ODI series, this time we’re looking to win all three games, prepare ourselves for the qualifiers and come next year, we are looking to be one of those teams in New Zealand.’’
