This is the moment we have been waiting for as the marquee cricket event of the year comes to a television near you. Over a billion fans all over the world will tune in to watch the eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup – to be played at iconic venues. Play starts Sunday, 16 October and runs to Sunday 13 November, where the final will be played at the MCG in Melbourne with around 100,000 fans in the stands.
WHO’S WHO ON THE MIC: You can expect to hear some familiar voices during the broadcast. Among them will be former West Indies legend and ace analysts Ian Bishop – of “Remember The Name” fame – which heralded Carlos Brathwaite’s never to be forgotten pyrotechnics and heroics of the most famous victory of 2016. Brathwaite himself will also be on the panel as well as Samuel Badree a two-time world champion from 2012 and 2016.
WHERE TO WATCH: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia will be televised and live-streamed across continents. In the West Indies our loyal fans can catch the action on ESPN. So please set you alarm and body clock for the first ball against Scotland. If you’re in Jamaica its 11 o’clock on Sunday night. If you’re in Eastern Caribbean it’s midnight Monday morning. Remember that’s the start of the work week, so if the Boss sees you sleep walking off on the job during the daytime, your excuse is ”I love the Men in Maroon”.
Star Network will have television rights in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives, while Hotstar and Disney+ will also stream the games in India. PTV & ARY Digital Networks will broadcast the games in Pakistan. Gazi TV and Rabbithole will telecast and live-stream matches in Bangladesh. Sky Sports will televise and stream games in the UK, while Fox Sports, Channel Nine and Kayo will show the games in Australia. Willow TV and ESPN+ will show the matches in the USA, with Canada having live streaming through Hotstar.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Viewers will be treated to state-of-the-art coverage which will include a minimum of 35 cameras at every game. The coverage will also be complemented with a variety of analytical and visual enhancements.
The broadcast will feature for the first time, Field 360° — a virtual field model, powered by an AI enabled live player tracking engine which provides viewers with an immersive experience. This technology, used to shine a light on fielding positions and strategies, has been developed by Quidich Innovation Labs with creative direction from ICC TV.
The drone camera provided by Level Horizons will provide stunning views of all venues and surrounding geography. There will be a roving buggy cam as well for a ground level view, while Spidercam will provide an aerial view of proceedings.
