Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

Karishma Ramharack is delighted that her excellent performances for West Indies Women led to her being selected in the Most Valuable Team of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The off-spinner was in the team announced by the ICC on Monday following the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday. She bowled well throughout and ended with five wickets at an impressive average of just 10 runs per wickets.

“It feels surreal to be named on the ICC Team of the World Cup. I’m really thankful for all the opportunities that have been presented to me to represent the West Indies. It’s a huge moment in my career and I will cherish it. Also, it pushes me to become better as the years go on. I just want to stay in the moment and enjoy all the love and support I have been receiving,” she told CWI Media from her home in Trinidad.”

“I want to keep making an impact with the ball and keep improving on myself. I have come a long way from when I started… I have matured a lot and it’s about working on ‘me’ and how I can help the West Indies team grow … how we can develop and get better.”

Ramharack has been showing steady improvement and was among the leading performers for West Indies in the tournament. In September 2021, she had career-best figures of 3-0-8-3 against South Africa at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, which helped bowl West Indies to victory. That was a significant point in her career, and she also spoke of the confidence she gained from the encouraging advice from skipper Hayley Matthews.

“Hayley, on field, just kept telling me to focus on putting energy into every delivery and that really helped me bowl an effort ball every time. I think the best advice throughout the tournament was to stick to what’s working for me and my style of bowling,” she said.

“At that stage against South Africa in Antigua, it did help me as I hardly played games before … I’ve been into some series recently in the World Cup and the series versus New Zealand and England (at home) and the Tri-nation Series in South Africa in the build-up to the World Cup where I learned a lot. Those series and bowling to some of the best batters in the world, as well as bowling in the powerplay, really helped me with the way I’ve performed in this T20 World Cup.”
