Cricket West Indies (CWI) governs cricket across the West Indies, a confederation of Caribbean countries. Originally established as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in the 1920s, it became the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996 and was rebranded as Cricket West Indies in May 2017 as part of a restructuring effort.

West Indies Women are gearing up for a vital three One-Day Internationals (ODI) against Australia, with much more than just a series win at stake. This ODI series marks West Indies’ fourth fixture in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-2025. Having previously faced New Zealand, England, and Ireland, each match in this ongoing championship offers West Indies an opportunity to amass crucial points. With their current position at ninth out of ten teams in the Championship table, the importance of this series can’t be understated.

The opening encounter bowls off on Sunday morning (Saturday night) at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Despite the challenges in the T20 series against Australia, Shemaine Campbelle is hopeful, highlighting that

“there are a lot of positives we can take away from that series and take it into this ODI series.” She expressed her confidence in the squad, noting that “all the girls are ready and fully prepared for tomorrow’s game. It’s just for us to go out there and express ourselves and play the brand of cricket we are accustomed to playing.”

The ODI format is seen as a chance for the team to settle, build innings, and register impactful scores. Campbelle believes the longer format provides an avenue for the girls to spend extended time at the crease, stating,

“As long as you spend some time on the wicket, runs will come.”

In light of the ICC Women’s Championship standings, the series takes on additional importance. Campbelle is clear about her individual goals:

“My role is to keep it simple and get some runs for the team and myself.”

However, team dynamics and strategies are paramount, and taking lessons from the T20 series can be pivotal. The need to “rotate the strike more” and to consistently “believe in ourselves” are key takeaways she emphasizes.
