The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Four-Day Series has kicked-off for the 2022/23 season.
The Division Two teams have recently concluded the CSA T20 Knock Out Competition and the focus has shifted to the longer format of the game.
Defending champions, Northern Cape Heat, were number one on the log at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season. That comes after Kimberly-based side were crowned champions of the CSA Four-Day Series and runners-up in the CSA One Day Cup.
Heat will host Limpopo Impalas in the opening match of series at the Kimberly Oval. They will look to pick up where they left off this past season as the pressure mounts for promotion to the top division.
Last season’s Four-Day Series runners up, Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers will travel to Benoni to face up against the Eastern Storm whilst AET Tuskers host Mpumalanga Rhinos in Pietermaritzburg.
CSA Acting Head of Cricket Pathways, Edward Khoza, commented on the excitement and importance of the current season.
“The summer of cricket is in full swing and there is a bigger incentive for the teams to perform better as the focus now moves to Four-Day competition for the CSA Division 2 Members.
“At the core of the 2022/23 season is a possible promotion to the premier structure of Domestic Professional cricket. All teams have a lot of work to put in going forward as the standings can change with the different competitions,” said Khoza.
“The possible opportunity of playing in the top structure not only provides excitement for the participating teams, but it also provides hope for development and communities around them,” he continued.
“This is also a very important season in the cricket fraternity as CSA has taken a firm stand against gender-based-violence. Our teams are taking to the field for a bigger purpose as we seek to raise awareness and educate on this issue facing our country,” concluded Khoza.
