After more than 20 years as an equity partner in the company managing the Hollywoodbets Dolphins cricket team, SuperSport has announced its decision to divest from KZN Cricket (Pty) Ltd.
This follows a very successful period in KZN Cricket with the Hollywoodbets Dolphins riding the crest of the wave in recent years, producing outstanding cricketers who have gone on to represent the Proteas.
The move by SuperSport was made in accordance with its change in strategic focus around such investments and has the full support and buy-in from KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union who will take over the 50 percent shareholding that SuperSport has had until now in the company.
Whilst divesting as an equity partner, SuperSport will however continue its good relationship with KZN Cricket as its communications and media partner.
“It’s been a tremendous ride and I must thank the Dolphins for being such vibrant and ambitious partners,” said Marc Jury, chief executive of SuperSport. “We leave on good terms and with the Union in excellent health. Needless to say, relationships remain strong and our involvement at a different level with KZN Cricket will continue.”
The President of the Union, Yunus Bobat, expressed his gratitude to SuperSport for being excellent partners over two decades and for their commitment to growing the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and KZN Cricket brand.
“Whilst it is sad to lose the expertise and experience that SuperSport has brought to KZN Cricket, we are excited about the new relationship that we are forging with them,” said Bobat. “They have always gone beyond expectations to improve cricket in our province and I am sure that will be carried over into our new partnership.”
