Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium is bracing for a showdown of momentous proportions when Australia and the Proteas go head-to-head in a three match T20 series at the iconic venue, a venue that has played host to some exciting encounters against our bitter rivals from Down Under.

The two teams have played out some fascinating matches at Kingsmead over the years and in 2016 the Proteas pulled off a memorable T20 win with hometown heroes David Miller and Kyle Abbott winning the match.

Not only has Miller won T20 matches against Australia at Kingsmead but has also been instrumental in winning ODI’s for South Africa against the Aussies in Durban.

Miller has played important roles in a few exciting encounters against Australia over the years and the 34-year-old is eager to renew the rivalry on his home ground for all three of the T20 Internationals in August.

“I always enjoy playing against Australia personally, and they always seem to get me as well as the team fired up,” Miller said.

“We’ve had some really good battles against Australia over the years and I’ve really enjoyed playing against them.

“It’s going to be really nice to play all three T20’s in Durban and it will be cool to be the home boy playing in front of family and friends at Kingsmead.”

Having spent most of his career playing for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and calling Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium home, Miller is grateful for the support that he receives when he turns out for the Proteas in Durban.

“Having played so much cricket in Durban the fans really help in making me feel part of the furniture which is a really comforting feeling and playing for your country on your home ground is always special.

“It’s a really cool feeling and it’s been a while since I’ve played in Durban for the Proteas so it’s going to be exciting.

“I think because Durban hasn’t had too much international cricket since before the pandemic, we will see the Durban crowds come out in the numbers for the series,” Miller added.

Tickets are selling quickly for the three matches and KZN Cricket CEO Heinrich Strydom is encouraging Durbanites to not leave it too late.

“You don’t want to miss out on this series and if you wait too long there’s a chance you will miss out!” Strydom said.

“The KZN Cricket Union and Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium is eager to put on the best possible show for the fans and we cannot wait to welcome back international cricket to Durban.

“With the T20 series against Australia, a T20 International against India, both the Hollywoodbets Dolphins men’s and women’s teams, the Momentum Proteas versus New Zealand and the SA20, it’s an exciting summer of cricket for local fans.”

The first of the three matches that make up the KFC T20 International Series between South Africa and Australia at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium will take place on August 30. Tickets available at ticketpros.co.za
