The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that the bilateral series between England and New Zealand will be named in honor of former batter Graham Thorpe.
According to a report, the trophy, named after both Graham Thorpe and Martin Crowe, is being designed in New Zealand. It will be unveiled before the start of the upcoming three-match series.
Thorpe, who passed away during the recent English summer, was admired for his tenacity, playing 100 Tests for England and scoring 6,744 runs at an average of 44.66, along with 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries. He also featured in 82 ODIs, accumulating 2,380 runs at an average of 37.18, including 21 fifties.
His Test debut came at Trent Bridge during the 1993 Ashes, and his final match was against Bangladesh in 2005. He debuted in ODIs against Australia in 1993 and played his last ODI in 2002.
Martin Crowe, regarded as one of New Zealand’s best, passed away in 2016 at age 53 after battling lymphoma.
