The Hobart Hurricanes are excited to announce that Xavier Doherty and Brad Loveluck will be joining the team for KFC BBL|12 to provide additional coaching support.

Doherty is a name that needs no introduction, with the white-ball World Cup winner having been a fixture of Tasmanian and Australian sides throughout the 2000s.  The off-spinner was perhaps most revered for his work in 50-over cricket, but also had a successful career in the shortest form of the game, including playing 34 games in the Big Bash League – 26 of these for the Hurricanes.

Doherty – who took 24 wickets at 26.92 in purple – will work closely with the sides expansive spinning group, which includes Asif Ali, Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Shadab Khan, Wil Parker and D’Arcy Short.

Loveluck is a coach who is well revered amongst the Tasmanian Cricket community, having previously been the head coach of New Town in the Wilson Homes Cricket Tasmania Premier League (CTPL).  He guided the Bucks to their most recent CTPL T20 title, before moving to Victoria and coaching with the Camberwell Magpies in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition.

Loveluck has also worked within the underage pathway programs for both Cricket Tasmania and Cricket Victoria, as well as having worked with the Tasmanian men’s 2nd XI side.

Both coaches will work with the group who goes on the road, as well as with the squad players remaining in Hobart in between games.

The 12th edition of the Big Bash League officially gets underway next week, when the Hurricanes take on the Melbourne Starts at the MCG on Friday 16 December.

The Hurricanes first home game will be held in Launceston on Monday 19 December, when they take on the reigning champions, the Perth Scorchers.
