Former SLC administrator Murugiah Rajasingham passes away

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. Originally registered as the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on June 30, 1975, it was renamed Sri Lanka Cricket in 2003.

The death occurred of Mr. Murugiah Rajasinghaam, a former cricketer and manager of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team and Sri Lanka Cricket administrator on September 8 Tuesday the final rites were performed the same day evening. He is survived by his wife Surangani Rajasingham nee Dayaratne.

A product of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy , Mr. Rajasingham distinguished himself as an administrator at Sri Lanka Cricket. He also had the distinction of serving as the Liason Officer of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team during the country’s first Test match versus England  and subsequently served as the Assistant Manager of the Sri Lanka Team that toured England in 1984.

Mr. Rajasingham’s service to the game was immense having forged his career from player to rising to the pinnacle of cricket administration where he headed the Colts Cricket Club as its president at one time. His efficiency as an administrator found recognition when Rajasingham rose to become the assistant secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket in from 1973 to 1978 following a successful stint heading the Colombo District Cricket Association.

Mr. Rajasingham was a degree holder in Human Resources obtained from an Indian university. He except elled in cricket and hockey at school and went on to represent Colts CC and subsequently the SSC in cricket. He shone in hockey representing Ports Authority.
