Harsha Bhogle, a prominent cricket commentator, has discussed Hardik Pandya’s evolving role in the Indian cricket team. Bhogle noted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team management have entrusted Pandya with playing in all upcoming white-ball matches.

This follows Pandya’s recent removal as T20 vice-captain during the Sri Lanka tour, a decision made by the selectors in search of fit and available players for the captaincy. Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the new captain.

Bhogle believes that Pandya is being closely monitored for his performance and fitness, with Suryakumar Yadav serving as a test captain. If Yadav does not meet expectations, Pandya may be reinstated as captain.

Bhogle says the BCCI still views Pandya as a top candidate for the Indian limited-overs captaincy. “Hardik Pandya has been asked to play all white ball games. The captaincy door is open for him; they are just testing Suryakumar Yadav,” Bhogle stated.

The team management is evaluating all captaincy options, keeping the door open for Pandya. Reports suggest his red-ball career may be ending, with the BCCI focusing on his white-ball performance to prepare him for a leadership role.

Pandya is being prepared for a potential leadership role, while Suryakumar Yadav is currently being tested as T20 captain. Bhogle noted that this is a trial phase and the BCCI has not yet made any final decisions.

Hardik Pandya is at a critical point in his career, with the coming months crucial for his potential return as Indian team captain.
