A staple of the Hobart Hurricanes line-up since 2019, Nicola Carey is continuing her WBBL career in Tasmania!

A talented top-order batter, a skillful powerplay and death bowler, and ever-reliable fielder, Carey has led the Hurricanes as one of their most successful players since making the move from the Sydney Thunder to Hobart in WBBL|05.

Carey is excited to return to the Purple Army for another season, signing a one-year deal.

I’ve loved my time with the Hurricanes over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to another season in purple!” stated Carey.

Coming off one of the strongest WNCL seasons of her career, Carey will be looking to carry her 50-over form into the shorter format of the game.

She won the Player of the Match in the WNCL Final and the WNCL Player of the Year, as she dominated the competition scoring 696 runs and taking 14 wickets.

Throughout her WBBL career, Carey has played 125 total matches and is only just outside of the Top 10 in Total Matches played in the WBBL, trailing Hurricanes teammates, Molly Strano, Heather Graham, and Elyse Villani only by a couple of matches.

Across two WBBL clubs, she has scored 1433 runs at an average of 18.37, taken 125 wickets (sixth in the overall wicket-taking tally), and 42 catches (eleventh overall).

While WBBL|09 did not end with a finals berth for Hobart, Carey still managed a successful season with the bat and ball, scoring 173 runs and taking 12 wickets to help the Hurricanes to a sixth-place finish.

Carey has also represented Australia on 23 occasions in ODIs and in 27 T20 matches, where she was used as a bowling all-rounder as part of a talented Australian batting unit.

The Hurricanes will continue to lean on Carey’s experience in T20 cricket as they persist in their search of an elusive first piece of silverware in the WBBL.

High Performance General Manager, Salliann Beams, discussed her delight in seeing Carey continue her career for the Hurricanes.

We are blessed to have a player of Nic’s standard be a crucial aspect of our list, she has the ability to change a match in all three facets of T20 cricket.

It has filled me with pride watching her game continue to improve since coming down to Tasmania, and I know that she can help guide us to success in Hurricanes Purple,” discussed Beams.

Nicola Carey joins Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Molly Strano and Rachel Trenaman as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of WBBL|10 as new signings and re-signings continue to be announced over the coming weeks.

Details on memberships will be communicated to Hurricanes members over the coming week.
