The Hobart Hurricanes have announced their third overseas player ahead of KFC BBL|11, with Englishman, Jordan Thompson, securing the final spot on the ‘Canes roster.

The allrounder joins Sandeep Lamichhane and fellow Englishman, Harry Brook as the other Hurricanes overseas players.

The 25-year-old Yorkshire native has come through Yorkshire’s underage and Academy programs, and recently also took part in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, playing with the Northern Superchargers franchise.

Thompson had a breakout season during 2020, scoring 234 runs and taking 15 wickets in Yorkshire’s five North Group matches in the Bob Willis Trophy. He fell two runs short of a maiden hundred against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, and finished the season by claiming his first five-wicket haul – having hit 62 in the first innings – to help secure victory over Leicestershire at Headingley.

Earlier this year, Thompson combined with fellow Hurricanes new-recruit, Harry Brook, to set a record sixth-wicket stand of 141 in a T20 match for Yorkshire; a feat the pair will no doubt be looking to repeat in purple.

Thompson, an excellent fielder, compliments the Hurricanes line-up having the ability to score with a high strike-rate at the back end of an innings with the bat and middle-over skill with the ball.

“I’m really excited to play in the Big Bash for the first time,” Thompson said.

“Back home, it’s a tournament we watch with great interest during the winter months, so I’m looking forward to meeting up with the team and experiencing it for myself.

“It will be great to work with a new bunch of players and coaching staff, and I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can and playing the role that the team need me to.”

Hurricanes squad for KFC BBL|11: Scott Boland, Harry Brook (o/s), Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Peter Handscomb, Caleb Jewell, Josh Kann, Sandeep Lamichhane (o/s), Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Joel Paris, Wil Parker, D’Arcy Short, Jordan Thompson (o/s), Matthew Wade, Mac Wright.

The Hurricanes first match of KFC BBL|11 will be on December 8 against the Sydney Sixers at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.
