Hydro Tasmania, Cricket Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes are pleased to announce the formation of a new partnership commencing this season.

Beginning this year, the Hydro Tasmania logo will be seen on the Hurricanes’ playing and coaches kit, but the partnership goes much deeper.

The business has come on board to support not only the Hurricanes programs but also much of the activity Cricket Tasmania undertakes in the community.

The partnership covers the next three seasons and will see activity both on and off the field.

Cricket Tasmania Chief Executive Dominic Baker said that the connection between the organisations is clear.

“Every Tasmanian knows – and many have a personal connection to – Hydro Tasmania”, said Baker. “The history of cricket in our state is rich – from Lily Poulett-Harris to Tim Paine – as is the history of Hydro.”

“Hydro Tasmania has quite literally built communities right around Tasmania, and together we will ensure that they remain fit, healthy and connected through our state’s only professional sports teams.”

“Their support for our Big Bash teams is a game-changer for us, but what I’m really excited about is joining forces to deliver our myriad of activities in the community.”

“In a pre-COVID world we would visit over 8000 students in around 130 schools each year during our Community Blitz. That’s taken a bit of a hit this year, but we’re confident that 2021 will allow us to get back to business.”

Hydro Tasmania CEO Mr Evangelista Albertini said this new relationship was a natural fit for a business that has been a part of the Tasmanian community for more than 100 years.

“As Australia’s largest generator of renewable energy, we’re proud to support these ambassadors for our state, especially at a time when Tasmanians are so keen to see live sport again and have a chance to support their local teams over the summer months,” Mr Albertini said.

“We’re particularly excited to be supporting the great work the Hurricanes do getting out in the community promoting sport and healthy lifestyles to young Tasmanians,” he said.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Jane Howlett said that the partnership comes with support from the Tasmanian Government.

“The Tasmanian Government welcomes the new three-year partnership agreement between Hydro Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes”, said the Minister. “The partnership is set to benefit grassroots cricket in the state, with both organisations working together on community initiatives all around Tasmania, including the Cricket Tasmania Community Blitz which sees players visiting schools in every region each year.”
