New Zealand all-rounder, Hayley Jensen, will pull on the purple again in WBBL|08, joining the Hobart Hurricanes as an international replacement player.

Unfortunately highly-touted English recruit, Issy Wong, will miss WBBL|08 in it’s entirety due to injury.

Jensen joined the Hurricanes set up in WBBL|06, joining the team in the Sydney hub as an international replacement player.  On this occasion additional international players were permitted to be recruited by each team as they navigated the pandemic for the first time, with Jensen going on to play two matches for the Hurricanes.

No stranger to the WBBL, as well as the Hurricanes, Jensen has also previously represented the Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers.  However, the past 12 to 18 months have arguably been the best of Jensen’s career thus far.

Since 2020, the 29-year-old has been a key fixture in a New Zealand White Ferns side that is building momentum on the global stage.  In 2022 alone, Jensen was a member of the White Ferns side that finished a respectable fifth at their home ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup, and was crucial in the historic bronze medal match at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, finishing with figures of 3-24 to help her team snatch the final spot on the podium from hosts, England.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to the Hurricanes and the WBBL this year,” Jensen said.

“It’s really unfortunate for Issy the way this opportunity has come about for me, but I’m definitely going to take it with both hands.

“It was a really unusual situation we were all in back in 2020 when I last played in the WBBL, but I felt really welcomed by the Hurricanes team and enjoyed my time in purple.

“This will hopefully be the first domestic season in the southern hemisphere where we return to a post-COVID ‘normal’, so I’m looking forward to getting over to Australia, meeting up with the team and putting some good performances out there.”

Jensen joins Nicola Carey, Julia Cavanough, Mignon du Preez (o/s), Maisy Gibson, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee (o/s), Emma Manix-Geeves, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Naomi Stalenberg, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman and Elyse Villani as players contracted for WBBL|08.

For the first time this season, League-wide the WBBL will be ticketed, so why not grab a membership for the upcoming season whilst they are still available for sale!  Join the Purple Army here.
