In a first for the Hobart Hurricanes, the ‘Canes are utilising the WBBL Associate Player rule to welcome Scotland’s Captain, Kathryn Bryce to their list in WBBL|10.

Under the rule, WBBL squads can sign one player outside of their allocated squad from any of the Associate ICC cricket nations, of which Scotland falls under.

Bryce is a name that is familiar to many Tasmanians, having dominated the Cricket Tasmania Premier League Season for New Town CC last season.

She is looking forward to being around the Hurricanes squad once again.

I am so excited to be heading to Australia to play for the Hurricanes in the WBBL.

The last 12 months have been such a terrific experience for me playing some of my best cricket and I am really keen to extend that form into such a wonderful tournament like the WBBL.

I am grateful to everyone at my domestic team in the UK and to Cricket Scotland for their continued support in my development,” said Bryce.

A talented All-Rounder who has an average of 37.44 with the bat in Women’s International T20s and a bowling average of 15.14, Bryce will provide another talented option to the Hurricanes line-up.

At only 26 years of age, there is still a lot of development to come in her game and although she is yet to debut in the WBBL, she will not be afraid of the moment, having done so on the biggest stage at the most recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai.

In her four matches, she batted at number three and was the first bowling change for a Scottish team that did not win a game, but Bryce remained one of the more consistent performers in their squad.

Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Jude Coleman discussed Bryce joining the Hurricanes list for WBBL|10.

We are excited to see Kathryn Bryce join us as an Associate Player, after spending the last two summers in Hobart training with the Tigers and Hurricanes squads.

Brycey’s all-round ability is a massive addition to our squad, and we look forward to seeing her in her first WBBL appearance,” said Coleman.

Following the announcement of Kathryn Bryce, the Hurricanes squad has 16 players, and they are primed for their first matchup against the Sydney Thunder next Monday.

Bryce joins Nicola Carey, Zoe Cooke, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee (O/S), Tabatha Saville, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Chloe Tryon (O/S), Elyse Villani, Callie Wilson, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (O/S) who will be replaced by Suzie Bates.

WBBL|10 is only six days away from starting with Hobart’s first game against the Sydney Thunder at Bellerive Oval on 28 October.
