Young Victorian leg spinner Wil Parker is the newest signing for the Hobart Hurricanes this season.
Parker, 18, has his first-class debut with Victoria last summer, and joins fellow Victorians Scott Boland and Peter Handscomb in the Tasmanian side for the Big Bash.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the Hurricanes program”, said Parker. “The Big Bash is one of the best T20 competitions in the world and to have the chance to play with and against the best players in the world is a dream come true.”
“It’s a huge opportunity for me to work with Adam and the coaching staff to develop my game over the next two seasons.”
Hobart Hurricanes Head Coach Adam Griffith said Parker has been in his sights for a number of years.
“Wil is a young spinner who came onto the scene last year for Victoria, but we have been following his development for some time now”, said Griffith. “We are always on the lookout for young talented players to give an opportunity to, and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do at this level.”
“Spinners who can take the ball both ways off the wicket are important to have on your list and he can definitely do this.”
Hobart Hurricanes General Manager Scott Barnes said the team had a strong youthful element.
“Following our signing of young local recruit Mitch Owen last week, we’re thrilled to be getting Wil on our list”, said Barnes. “Balance is always important and having a long term plan to maintain a mix of youth and experience will set us up well for this and seasons to come.”
“We’re sure that the Hurricanes team environment will be a great proving ground for Wil during his first year playing in the Big Bash.”
