The Hobart Hurricanes BBL|14 squad is one step closer to being finalised following the re-signing of promising young fast bowler Iain Carlisle to a two-year deal.

Carlisle re-joins the Hurricanes after his breakout season for the Tasmanian Tigers, where he was a key component of their Marsh Sheffield Shield Final run last season.

The 24-year-old, who is yet to make his Hurricanes debut, has all the skills required to be a successful T20 bowler, can swing the ball nicely and possesses a killer yorker.

He is delighted to be continuing his Big Bash career in Hobart.

I’m really excited to be signing on with the Hurricanes again for the next two years.

I’m looking forward to hopefully breaking into the starting XI in the coming season while helping bring success to the organisation and our Hurricanes fans!” stated Carlisle.

Born in Canberra before moving to Wollongong and Sydney, Carlisle moved to Tasmania at the start of the 2019-20 season following strong performances at the U19 National Championships and an U19 Australian tour of Sri Lanka.

A talent everyone in Tasmania has seen improve dramatically over the past few seasons, Carlisle continues to go from strength to strength.

He made his Marsh Cup debut for the Tigers during the 2022-23 season against Western Australia, followed by his First-Class debut two weeks later against Queensland in the red ball.

Carlisle burst onto the national scene last season, taking 20 wickets in four Sheffield Shield matches as he helped Tasmania to a Shield Final.

Head Coach of the Hobart Hurricanes, Jeff Vaughan, discussed Carlisle’s desire and passion to succeed in the professional game.

Iain is incredibly driven to be a successful cricketer, it has filled me and the rest of the coaching staff with pride watching his improvement over the past few seasons, and his success in red-ball cricket is a just reward for the effort he has put in.

While he is yet to make his debut for the Hurricanes, we know that he is seriously talented and has all the skills required to be a threat in the shortest form of the game, with his swinging of the new ball, great variation and a strong bouncer.

Despite there being plenty of competition for spots, I know Iain will put his best foot forward and potentially play a role for us in upcoming seasons,” explained Vaughan.

Carlisle joins Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, and Mac Wright as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of BBL|14.
