The Hobart Hurricanes are excited to announce that Tasmanian talent, Emma Manix-Geeves, will return to their roster for the upcoming WBBL season.

The 23-year-old top-order batter has signed another one-year deal with the Hurricanes, after returning to the ‘Canes line up last year for the first time since WBBL|05.

Following a breakout year in 2021-22 in the 50-over format of the game, Manix-Geeves returned to the field as a Hurricane in 2022, after a three-year hiatus.

Despite getting limited opportunities with the bat amongst a strong Hurricanes T20 batting line-up, Manix-Geeves continued to refine her T20 craft throughout the 2022-23 season, highlighted by her performances for the Greater Northern Raiders.  As vice-captain of the side, Manix-Geeves helped lead the side to the Wilson Homes Cricket Tasmania Premier League (CTPL) T20 title in 2022-23; the female Raiders first piece of CTPL silverware.

Manix-Geeves herself was instrumental in that Final game, notching an unbeaten 51 off 47 deliveries, as well as contributing in the field, with the crucial catch of North Hobart opener, Elyse Villani, behind the stumps.

“I’m really excited to be back on board as a Hurricane again this season,” Manix-Geeves said.

“After a couple of seasons out of the squad it was great to be back last year and having even more opportunity to work on my T20 game.

“We obviously have so many experienced people within our Tigers squad, but in the WBBL with the overseas players, it’s great to welcome even more people into the squad that we can learn from.

“It’s great that we have Lizelle back again this year,” Manix-Geeves continued.  “As a ‘keeper-batter myself, she’s such a great person for me to learn from, so that whenever further opportunity comes my way I’ll be ready to go.”

Hurricanes head coach, Jude Coleman, said she was looking forward to working with Manix-Geeves on her T20 game.

“We’ve done a little bit of T20 stuff so far this pre-season, but obviously most of the stuff I’ve been involved with EMG with has been in the 50-over form of the game,” Coleman explained.

“However, one thing about EMG is that she’s always keen to learn and improve and seek out feedback wherever she can, so I’m looking forward to seeing how she takes that on this year and applies it when she gets her opportunity.”

Manix-Geeves joins Nicola Carey, Maisy Gibson, Heather Graham, Shabnim Ismail (o/s), Ruth Johnston, Lizelle Lee (o/s), Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Bryony Smith (o/s) Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman and Elyse Villani as players currently announced as contracted to the Hurricanes for WBBL|09.

The Hurricanes will get their WBBL|09 season underway on Friday 20 October, when they take on the Perth Scorchers at Launceston’s University of Tasmania Stadium.
