The Hobart Hurricanes can proudly announce that Charlie Wakim has been signed to the Hobart Hurricanes on a 1-year deal.

Wakim, a talented batsman who relocated to Tasmania in 2017, signed with the Hurricanes following a tremendous Marsh One Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield season in 2023/24 with the Tasmanian Tigers.

During BBL|13, Wakim was signed as an injury replacement player for the Brisbane Heat, playing in the Challenger against the Adelaide Strikers, opening the batting with big hitter Josh Brown.

In previous Big Bash seasons, Wakim has played for the Melbourne Stars and also represented the Hurricanes in 2018 as part of the Abu Dhabi T20 tournament.

Wakim discussed his pride when representing Tasmania in any format of the game.

“I’m really excited to join the Hurricanes,” Explained Wakim.

“I always feel proud to represent Tasmania in the longer form of the game, and can’t wait to do it in the BBL.”

Throughout the 23/24 season, Wakim established himself as a key member of the Tigers squad and one of the leaders within the team, scoring 679 runs with two centuries.

Wakim is also a brilliant fielder, and this was evident with his efforts in the field in the Marsh One Day Cup last season, taking one of the best catches of the competition on the boundary against Western Australia.

Salliann Beams, General Manager of High-Performance at Cricket Tasmania spoke about the high character that Wakim will bring to the Hurricanes squad in BBL|14.

“Charlie has been rewarded with a BBL contract following his fantastic season for the Tasmanian Tigers and his consistency in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League T20 competition.

“He will provide the squad with great experience and leadership, embodying what it means to be a Hurricane on and off the field,” Said Beams.

Wakim joins Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, and Matthew Wade as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of BBL|14.

Details on memberships for BBL|14 will be communicated to members and fans in the coming months.
