The International Cricket Council (ICC) has partnered with Sri Lanka Cricket to make the ICC Foundation Course available in Sri Lanka.

The foundation certificate program was developed specifically for aspiring coaches who are looking forward to supporting the entry-level stages of the game.

It also caters to coaches who would like to use the training resources as a ‘pre requisite’ when attaining SLC Coach Accreditations.

The course is delivered entirely online and allows participants to explore at their own pace a range of modules focusing on the basics of the game, Safety & Inclusion, the Participants, the role of the Coach.

The Coach Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket, which is spearheading the program in Sri Lanka, has also translated this course into Sinhala and Tamil languages for the benefit of aspiring coaches.

This is fantastic innovation by the Coach Education Unit of the High-Performance Center, they have correctly identified the needs of the greater coaching community and now they have created a platform that will connect the coach education activities to all the aspiring coaches in the country. Importantly, coaches will be learning at their pace and in their preferred language,’’ said Mr. Tim McCaskill, Head of High Performance, Sri Lanka Cricket.

The Foundation Course also teaches coaches how to create effective training and enjoyable game day environments.

Head of Coach Education Unit, Mr. Heshan De Mel said, the course represents a “significant step” towards their goal of creating more coach development opportunities available to coaches and volunteers around the country.

The timing of this course going live will enable us to bolster and prepare our network of coaches for the re-launch of our grassroots cricket programs across the country. This certificate is also one of the entry requirements for coaches to enroll in SLC’s Level 1 Coaching Courses,” said De Mel.

Head of National Cricket Development, Mr. Tharaka Samaratunga said, “The ICC has been fantastic to work with, as we developed the structure and content of the accreditation, and then to utilize their ED App online platform to place the certificate online has been a huge boost for our coaches who are from the outstations” he added.
