The outfield at Greenpark Stadium in Kanpur received an “unsatisfactory” rating from the ICC. Only 35 overs were played on the first day of the Test match between India and Bangladesh, and no play occurred on the second or third days, despite no rain on the third day.
Prior to the match, the state’s public works department deemed one of the stands at Greenpark Stadium unsafe, leading to a limited number of upper-level seats being made available for spectators.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) manages Greenpark Stadium under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government, which owns the land. The MoU assigns the UPCA responsibility for the stadium’s maintenance and management.
The pitch for the Test match received a “satisfactory” rating.
The ICC rated the pitch at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, used for India’s Test match against Bangladesh, as “very good,” while four other home venues used during the season were rated “satisfactory.”
The three Test venues used for the series against New Zealand — Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy, Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium — received “satisfactory” ratings from the ICC match referee.
The pitches at Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad, used for Bangladesh’s T20I series, were rated “very good” as they met the requirements for the shortest format.
However, the Indian team management, the BCCI, and local curators may be disappointed to learn that former Australia opener David Boon did not rate any of the Test match pitches used against New Zealand above “satisfactory.”
The Chinnaswamy pitch was deemed to have excessive moisture, leading to India being bowled out for just 46, while the Pune and Mumbai pitches were “rank turners,” not strictly following the norms for a ‘Good Test’ match wicket. These two tracks still received “satisfactory” ratings due to strong individual batting performances from players on both sides.
