The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), founded in 1967 by former England fast bowler Fred Rumsey as the Cricketers' Association, represents past and present first-class cricketers in England and Wales. In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. It also helped create a pension scheme in 1995 and launched the magazine All Out Cricket and the ACE UK Educational Programme in 2002.

The 2023 IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year has been selected by the PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings, powered by Argentex, to provide the best statistical XI from this season’s domestic men’s cricket.

The team, selected on Monday 25 September ahead of the last round of LV= Insurance County Championship matches sees Liam Dawson captain as he sat top of the domestic MVP with an imposing 617 MVP points. The Hampshire spinner has also been nominated for the cinch PCA Men’s Player of the Year award.

Their side contains three faces from last year’s team in Sam Cook, James Vince and Simon Harmer, who incredibly makes the team for the fifth successive year. Middlesex’s Ryan Higgins and Durham’s Alex Lees make the side following brilliant seasons and are also nominated for the cinch PCA Men’s Player of the Year award.

Somerset youngster James Rew enters the team as wicketkeeper having scored more than 1,000 First-Class runs this season. The 19-year-old is also nominated for the cinch PCA Men’s Young Player of the Year award.

With the Men’s Overall Domestic MVP selecting a well-balanced team, MVP points across the LV= Insurance County Championship, Vitality Blast, The Hundred and Metro Bank One Day Cup are taken into account.

The cinch PCA Awards takes place at The Troxy on Monday 2 October where the best performing players in domestic and international cricket will be recognised.

All players selected in the 2023 IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year will received a personalised winner’s medal from Mappin & Webb.

Daniel Bell-Drummond (Kent / London Spirit)

  • Scored unbeaten triple century in County Championship
  • Third highest points from a batter with 368
  • 600 runs in Vitality Blast – second highest

Alex Lees (Durham)

  • 415 MVP points
  • Shortlisted for cinch PCA Men’s Player of the Year
  • 2,084 runs overall
  • Average of 74.5 in County Championship

James Vince (Hampshire / Southern Brave)

  • 560 MVP points
  • 937 runs in County Championship
  • Leading run scorer in Vitality Blast with 670 runs
  • Leading batter with 447 batting MVP points

Joe Clarke (Nottinghamshire / Welsh Fire)

  • 437 MVP points
  • 961 runs in County Championship
  • Highest score of 229 not out
  • 432 runs in Vitality Blast with 154.83 strike-rate

James Rew – wicketkeeper (Somerset)

  • 281 MVP points
  • Shortlisted for cinch PCA Men’s Young Player of the Year
  • 1,080 First-Class runs
  • Six hundreds across all formats

Ryan Higgins (Middlesex)

  • 602 MVP points
  • Second on Domestic Overall Rankings
  • 53 wickets across all formats
  • 1,465 runs overall

Liam Dawson – captain (Hampshire / London Spirit)

  • Leading MVP with 617 points
  • Shortlisted for cinch PCA Men’s Player of the Year
  • 71 wickets this summer with best figures of 7-15
  • 1,069 runs across all formats

Simon Harmer (Essex)

  • 544 MVP points
  • Highest ranked spinner with 328 bowling points
  • Leading wicket-taker in County Championship Division One with 60
  • Fifth year in succession in Team of the Year

Dan Worrall (Surrey / London Spirit)

  • 353 MVP points
  • 47 wickets at 23.68 in County Championship
  • Nine wickets in The Hundred with 7.35 economy rate
  • Second highest pace bowling MVP points with 293

Matt Henry (Somerset / Welsh Fire)

  • 425 MVP points
  • Leading bowler with 336 bowling points
  • Won Vitality Blast and finished leading wicket-taker with 31
  • 32 wickets in County Championship at 16.18

Sam Cook (Essex / Trent Rockets)

  • 355 MVP points
  • 47 wickets in County Championship at 19.14
  • 16 wickets in Vitality Blast
  • IG PCA Men’s Team of the Year in third successive season
