DUBLIN – Cricket Ireland has today announced a series of intra-squad youth-level matches starting this week, to provide competitive cricket for its national under-age talent pathway squads.
Over the course of the next three weeks, in lieu of under-age international fixtures that would normally take place during the summer, a 16-fixture programme has been developed to complement what is turning out to be a busy domestic club calendar, as well as ensuring players can still be available for provincial youth fixtures and the women’s Super Series.
National Talent Pathway Manager, Albert van der Merwe, said:
“After a frustrating time for all our young cricket players, we are finally at the point where we can provide some meaningful cricket for them. It’s been challenging to develop a programme of substance, given the truncated season and the absence of international youth fixtures, but in partnership with the Provincial Unions we have finalised these fixtures and ensured there are no clashes with their bilateral provincial fixtures. The key consideration was ensuring we play as many games as possible, and ensuring that the players get to play games across various teams. We are very thankful to the various clubs across the Unions for the use of their grounds for these matches.”
