Fan favourite Alana King has committed her future to Perth until at least the end of WBBL|10, signing a two-year contract extension with the reigning Weber Women’s Big Bash League champions.

King joined the Scorchers ahead of WBBL|07 and made an immediate impact, claiming 16 wickets at 18.75 while conceding just 5.84 runs per over.

A composed and versatile leg-spinner, King’s partnership with off-spinner Lilly Mills was pivotal to the Scorchers securing their maiden WBBL championship last season.

The 26-year-old has become a regular for Australia in all three formats since making her international debut in January 2022, celebrating Ashes, World Cup and Commonwealth Games titles.

Talking about her contract extension and the season ahead, King said:

“I’m absolutely pumped – I love playing for the Scorchers. We obviously won it during my first year so hopefully that’s an omen for a few more wins in the years to come.

“We’ve got our great group back together, including internationals Sophie Devine and Marizanne Kapp with the addition of Maddy Green, as well. There’s a lot of fun and excitement in the group, and the vibe at training has been amazing.

“It’s the best time of year, we all love playing in the WBBL and we can’t wait to get back out there on Sunday. Playing a bunch of games in front of our home fans at Lilac Hill and the WACA Ground will also be awesome.

“Personally, I just want to take as many wickets as I can for the Scorchers and help us win a few more games.”

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said:

“I think Kingy just keeps getting better and better.

“It’s exciting to see where she’ll go, both for the Scorchers and Australia. She’s bowling with confidence and has shown an incredible hunger to learn and improve when she’s challenged, which will hold her in good stead.

“Her batting is starting to show some really good signs, as well, so I think she has the ability to turn into a very valuable all-round asset.

“On and off the field, Kingy has grown as a leader. She has the ability to pick players up when they’re down and she’s a really energetic personality who lifts those around her.”

The Scorchers will fly to Sydney this morning before beginning their WBBL|08 campaign against Sydney Thunder at Blacktown International Sportspark on Sunday 16 October.
