Lions Cricket launch their Public Benefit Organisation, known as the Lions Cricket Development Foundation PBO.

Lions Cricket are proud to announce their Public Benefit Organisation – a fully operational, SARS registered entity that will operate independently of the Gauteng Cricket Board NPC. Set up with the development of the game’s players and people in mind, the Gauteng Cricket Board NPC launched a PBO, affording valued donors section 18A tax certificates from here on in.

Structured with cricket development in mind, the first objective of the PBO is to ensure that targeted cricket development related expenses are driven through the PBO – such as donations as well as CSI (Corporate Social Investment) spend; and in return the companies are issued section 18A donation certificates.

“Our other objective,” explains Public Officer for the Lions Cricket Development Foundation, Brecht Mohonathan, “Is to further drive and encourage CSI initiatives as we strive to not only make great cricketers on the field but make an even greater impact in all that we do off it. It’s about purpose and positive impact far beyond our immediate cricketing eco-system. Developing cricket at a grassroots level is something that we are all passionate about at Lions Cricket. However, this passion is often unfortunately tempered by access to the financial resources required to turn our vision into reality. This year we took a huge step forward in addressing this need by setting up a Public Benefit Organisation, which will be used to raise money for our cricket development efforts, including club, school cricket, bursaries and communities, independently.”

Lions Cricket Development Foundation Chairperson, Busi Radebe, says that the 12-month process was certainly worth the wait;

“This PBO is for our people, our Pride. We aim to serve independently, professionally and within the best interest of the game in all that we do on field and off it.”

Effective immediately, the purpose-driven PBO will result in an even more impactful and powerful Pride operation from pipeline to professional, and independently so.
