Today #ThePrideOfJozi warmly welcomed Primedia to the swelling sponsorship stable. The comprehensive media partnership will cover broadcasting as well as outdoor and mall exposure for the cricket union, ensuring that all from far and wide are informed about upcoming matches; interactive fan engagement opportunities and a whole host of other activities covered by the brand voted Sports Organization of the Year in 2023.

The exclusive three-year media partnership brings together “The Pride of Jozi” and one of South Africa’s leading media companies. This new collaboration, which includes Primedia’s renowned radio stations 947, 702, and Primedia Out-of-Home, will further elevate the presence of Lions Cricket and its various teams, ranging from men’s and women’s cricket to the junior development programmes, as well as cricket for the Deaf and Blind. Fans will enjoy deeper engagement with their favourite teams, including unique opportunities to interact with players, attend special events, and enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Primedia’s focus on innovative media solutions will ensure that Lions Cricket fans are closer to the action than ever before.

Jono Leaf-Wright, CEO of Lions Cricket, commented: “This partnership with Primedia is a significant milestone for Lions Cricket. It allows us to connect with our fans in more meaningful ways while celebrating the diverse teams and talent we have across all levels of the game. From our senior men’s and women’s sides to our youth, and cricket for the deaf and blind teams, we are ‘The Pride of Jozi,’ and we are committed to excellence both on and off the field. With Primedia as our partner, we are confident that we will continue to grow our presence in Johannesburg and beyond, bringing our supporters even closer to the action.”

Tobie Badenhorst, Vice-President of Primedia Sport, expressed his excitement for the partnership: “We are incredibly proud to be associated with ‘The Pride of Jozi,’ a professional outfit that embodies the spirit and resilience of Johannesburg. Their achievements from last season are nothing short of inspiring, and we look forward to being part of their continued success. Through this partnership, we aim to showcase the best of Johannesburg’s cricketing talent, from the senior teams to the incredible work being done in the development, and cricket for the Deaf and Blind programmes. At Primedia, we are committed to providing platforms that celebrate excellence and engage communities, and we’re thrilled to contribute to Lions Cricket’s journey.”

The partnership will include ticket giveaways; outside broadcasts; interviews and advertising; online, on-air and outdoors – all of which will contribute to the growth of the Lions Cricket brand and ultimately growing the game.

Fans of the Pride are encouraged to rally behind the team for the opening fixture of the 2024 CSA T20 Challenge against the Titans at DP World Wanderers Stadium on Friday 27 September. Let’s fill up the stadium and show South Africa what it means to be “The Pride of Jozi.”
